Alex Richardson, from Telford, has been doing 100 burpees a day since the beginning of April, and plans to complete at least 2,000 by the time the month is up. The 27-year-old is taking part in the national challenge to raise money and awareness for Bone Cancer Research Trust.

Alex, a support worker from St Georges, said: “A few of my friends have been raising awareness as their family members have suffered from cancer.

“I heard about this challenge for Bone Cancer Research Trust and I saw the opportunity to give back as much as I can and raise funds.

“It started on April 1 and the objective is to complete 2,000 burpees by the end of the month.

“Through social media a fundraising page was created and hundreds of pounds have been raised.”

Alex, who used to weigh 21 stone before shedding six, said he had wanted to take part in similar fundraising activities for years but had always struggled to get involved.

“Two years ago I wasn’t able to do this due to my weight,” he said.

“During Covid I’ve had to really knuckle down and get myself back into shape with the support of my friends and family around me.

“Now I’m 15 stone and I’ve always wanted to do a fundraiser. It not only has more purpose due to the cause, but I now know I’m capable of doing this.”

Alex had an initial target of £150, but has currently raised more than £350.

“The first day of completing 100 was a bit tough,” he said.

“But I never knew the effects this illness can have on someone until my friends told me about it, so by the end of this challenge I hope I can give something back and raise the same awareness for others.”
