Katy Plant, who lives in Preston Grove, Trench, in Telford, decided to brighten up the holidays for local children by organising the event.

She invited youngsters to design their own bonnets and had nine entries in total.

They were all beautifully decorated bonnets and Katy was so impressed she lined them up on the wall outside her home over the weekend. Each of the children who took part in the competition were given an Easter egg.

These were donated by one of the residents and the owner of the winning hat also received a special movie treat bag.

Katy said she wanted something to do for the children who live in the street after what has been a challenging year for everyone. And she had decided it would be an opportunity for the children to demonstrate their creative side.

“I had the idea when the children were still off school,” she added.

“I put the challenge out on our facebook page and stuck leaflets through letterboxes.”

She said the competition was completely Covid safe with the young entrants leaving the bonnets on the wall, with a number, and posting the number and name through her door.

Judging for the bonnet competition was carried out by Telford & Wrekin councillor Richard Overton.
