About 1,000 metres of grass and scrubland on a farm at Poynton, near High Ercall, was involved in the fire.

A fire crew from Shrewsbury was called out after a 999 call at 2.37pm today (thurs).

The crew members used beaters and hosereel jets to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading further. It was under control by 4pm.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said that embers from a bonfire had been responsible for the fire.

They have warned people with the dry weather, as always, care should be taken with outdoor fires.

Two fire crews from Telford were called to a fire in a house in Bethall Lane, Broseley, at 15.38pm.

The small fire was confined to a window blind in the house and was put out in 15 minutes.
