Volunteers sought to deliver holiday activities to young people in Telford
People in Telford & Wrekin aged 16 and over can now volunteer to help 7,000 young people stay healthy and active at holiday clubs during the summer holidays.
Each club will be community-run, providing young people with nutritious meals, fun activities and the chance to spend time with each other.
The holiday clubs are part of Telford & Wrekin Council's Happy Healthy and Active Holidays scheme.
Volunteers can choose how much time to give and will receive all the training and support needed.
There are three volunteer roles across many different sites, and roles are made to be flexible to suit the skills of the person applying.
Councillor Eileen Callear, cabinet member for leisure, culture and visitor economy, said: "Putting on holiday clubs for nearly 7,000 young people is a vast and worthwhile task that will make a considerable difference to their lives.
"Families can often find the summer holidays difficult for financial reasons, so it’s important to help.
"Each volunteer's work will keep young people entertained, healthy and ready for the start of the new school term.
“I would encourage people to volunteer because there are so many benefits – learning new skills, making new friends, gaining confidence or just having fun.”
The Department of Education has provided £842,000 to Telford & Wrekin Council to support the Happy Healthy and Active Holidays scheme.
