Motorway left at standstill for 'police incident'
The M54 in Shropshire was closed by police in the early hours of Sunday.
Officers stopped the traffic between Junction Five, the Forge Junction and Junction Four, the Castlefarm interchange, at 2am.
Traffic had to be turned around and taken off the motorway for what West Mercia Police said was 'a police incident'.
Highways England tweeted: "We are endeavouring to get stationary trapped traffic turned around in order to resume their journeys. Please bear with us whilst we liaise with West Merica Police. Thank you for your patience."
Shortly afterwards the agency told drivers: "We hope now to have this issue resolved, and will have you continuing your journeys imminently. Please return to your vehicles and await Traffic Officer/Police instruction."
