Haberdashers jazz it up
The senior jazz band from Haberdashers' Abraham Darby School in Madeley were recently successful in a top regional competition. They travelled to Chester le Street, Couny Durham for the 19th annual Great North Big Band Jazz Festival and won the best band - the fourth time they have won the accolade - and best programme award.
The band performed a variety of jazz repertoires, with pieces featuring a number of soloists from the band.
Judges included Mick Donnelly who has recorded with music stars including Stevie Wonder, Britney Spears, Sting and the Bee Gees and Marcus Brown who has supported Tina Turner and Staus Quo.
As well as the band awards, Ben Ryder won a special adjudicators' award for best trombone or tuba and Oscar Irvine best bass player
