Shropshire eye surgeon scaling new heights to fight 'heartbreaking' disease
A Shropshire eye surgeon is set to scale Africa's tallest mountain this week to raise money for dementia research.
Dr Prasad Rao, a consultant eye surgeon at Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals, and his partner, Liza Choley, are heading off on Friday to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro.
The pair are raising funds for Dementia Research UK after Dr Rao has spent the last 23 years involved in the eye care of dementia patients.
He explained: "On a daily basis I come across patients brought in by families or carers and I see how badly the whole family are affected by dementia.
"The relationships are completely dysfunctional. Watching children or relatives try to communicate with them, it's heartbreaking to see.
