The tree of life in the Telford Centre has been a tradition for the last three decades.

Organised by the Rotary Club, the tree sees the names of people's late loved ones displayed on the tree in exchange for a small donation to charity.

The tree of lights was switched on in the New Row at the Telford Centre on Thursday with the town's MP Shaun Davies in attendance.

To celebrate its 30th year, the Salvation Army Band gave a carol concert in the centre from 4pm.

Thousands of people have so far signed up to remember their loved ones, and organiser Peter Seaward said people can make donations right up to Christmas Eve.

He said: “Once you've completed your application form, our brilliant teams will get your loved one's name on our tree based on New Row at Telford Centre for all to see.

“As always, all proceeds will be split between a number of brilliant local charities. “This year we are supporting Severn Hospice, Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith, The Bridge School, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust PRH Dementia Care Unit.”
