At the weekend, the organisation also hosted a Diwali Party to raise money for charity as well as allow the members of the community to celebrate the annual festival.

Mrs Lalita Sharma said Saturday's celebration saw the Telford Cultural and Leisure Centre in Hadley packed, as around 350 revellers celebrated.

She said: “The party was to celebrate Diwali and the first anniversary of the Dharm Association. We had a room full of more than 350 guests and it was a diverse community.

“It was a fantastic evening with lots of dancing, food, very colourful and people enjoying making new connections.”

She said the event saw the Deputy Mayor Eileen Callear from Telford & Wrekin Council attend along with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mandy Thorn.

Also at the Diwali Party was local Councillor Raj Mehta, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the West Midlands, Narinder Johal as well as the District Governor for the Lions Club, Ian Frances who is from Liverpool.
