Geoff Taylor from Stirchley has won the 'Best Ship', the 'Best Scratch Built Model', the Keith Jones Memorial Trophy and an award from the Four Corners Modelling Club.

The keen model-maker was highly commended for his project at the recent Scale ModelWorld UK show at the Telford International Centre.

Geoff has spent more than eight years building and constructing by hand, and from scratch, the HMS Arrow F173, that was a Type 21 frigate of the Royal Navy Circa 1990. He started his build on May 2 in 2016 and documented his progress in a diary as he went along before completing his masterpiece on May 24 this year.

Made mostly from plastic styrene plus brass for the finer details, and painted painstakingly, the model's scale size is 1.96 and captured eyes and plenty of attention at the recent show.

The 73-year-old said he spent four to five, or even six, hours a day on the model ship, and was delighted to receive the numerous accolades for his work.

"You’re always chuffed, it’s a very tough competition, the standards are absolutely superb," he said. "The competition is huge. The standard is cosmic, so for them to say mine in their opinion was the best in the show - yes, I was very proud of that!"
