First World War baby Barbara celebrates incredible 106 years
It was a year dominated by the First World War which was at its peak, when Russia was declared a republic after the revolution and one which also had a major movie named after it, but 1917 was also the year Barbara Bowdler was born.
And 106-years-later her family, friends, well wishers and fellow residents of The Old Rectory Care Home in Albrighton helped her celebrate her milestone birthday.
There was a surprise visit from a group of year nine children from Albrighton Primary School, whom she read out loud to, as reading is one of her favourite activities.
Barbara lived through two world wars and has seen five monarchs during her life, including George V who was King when she was born in London, with David Lloyd-George the Prime Minister.
