County's first voter ID election takes place in Albrighton

For the first time, voters in Shropshire have had to show photographic identification to take part in an election in the county.

The government introduced mandatory photographic identification for all elections in England earlier this year, but no election have taken place in Shropshire since then until the people of Albrighton went to the polls this week.

A by-election at Albrighton Parish Council on Thursday was the first election in the county to have required voters to bring ID.

Candidates David Benson, Jan Gold and Penny Higgs are all vying to be elected to fill the vacant seat.
