Friends of Lucas Harris will come together for a hog roast and a performance by Street and Laine on May 11 to mark what would have been his 14th birthday.

The event will take place at Dawley's Royal British Legion, which Lucas regularly visited.

His father, Mick, said: "The British Legion treated him better than family. He loved it – he was made the little chairman up there."

The Madeley Academy student died in August after a long battle with Chordoma, a rare, slow-growing tumour.

The family have decided to try to raise funds for Hope House and Ward 10 at Birmingham Children's Hospital, where Lucas received care.

"It I had millions, I would give them millions," Mick said. "I don't, so every penny counts.

Memories

"I couldn't say a bad word about them. I can't them enough for everything they did.

"In the early days they said Lucas wouldn't live to his first birthday. The memories we have because of the children's hospital is amazing. Even the nurses are like family.

"Whatever we make we'll divide it between those two charities."

Tickets will be available on the door for £10 each. The night will begin at 7.30pm and will also include raffles.

The tumour normally affects older men, and in the first years of life, Lucas underwent four operations.

At 18 months, he was named by Cancer Research UK as a Little Star by Cancer Research UK for his bravery.

In recent years he had further operations lasting 14 and 17 hours in a bid to reduce the size of the tumour, along with further chemotherapy treatment.
