The £2.5 million project to widen sewer pipes under central Donnington began in July, and water workers say it will protect the area from floods in heavy rainfall.

The company has completed work on Winifreds Drive, James Way West and the top section of Wrekin Drive, with work beginning on the roundabout at Wrekin Drive after Christmas.

Debbie Goodale from Severn Trent said: “We know this is a problem area for flooding during heavy rainfall and storms, which is why we’ve been working closely with Telford and Wrekin Council and local residents to tackle this.

“We’re making the sewer pipes bigger and better so they can hold much more which will help prevent flooding, and provide reassurance to those living in the area during times of heavy rain and storms.

“We’re really thankful for the patience and support we’ve had as we’re carrying out this important work for the people of Donnington.

“When we’re finished, this will bring huge benefits for the area and mean that residents no longer have to worry about flooding caused by sudden downpours and storms.”

Amey are working on behalf of Severn Trent, and are due to finish by the end of April next year.
