Book donation will help Great War researchers
A Telford historian and author has presented a copy of his latest book to the library of Ironbridge Gorge Museum as a "thank you" for its help in his researches.
Chris Owen says his donation will mean his book, Ironbridge In The Great War, will be available for study by researchers and family historians.
"When I was given the contract to do the book I wanted to give as comprehensive a story as I could. I was referred to the staff here by Janet Doody, a Madeley historian who has also done a book," said Chris.
"The purpose of the book donation is for it to be part of the library's in-house research reference material for all those who use the library facilities located at the Gorge Museum Trust premises.
"It is as a thank-you to the head librarian Joanne Smith for all her invaluable personal help given freely to me, when researching the history of the Darby family, and the Coalbrookdale Company and its workforce, particularly during the Great War years, as material for inclusion in the book."
Jo Smith, museum registrar, said: "It is going to be a great addition to the library because it is one source which has a lot of information in it, so rather than having to try find the information in lots of different places, it is all in one volume."
Chris believes of particular interest to family historians will be his book's list at the back of all Ironbridge area casualties of the Great War.
