Protection for Horsehay tree
A cherry tree is to be protected on the side of William Ball Drive at Horsehay, Telford.
Telford and Wrekin planners agreed to a tree protection order being made on the tree at a meeting on Wednesday. (18)
One of the residents of new homes recently built off the drive had applied to have the tree felled.
But councillors, who heard that the tree was between eight and 10 metres from the house, said it was important to retain trees to store carbon.
The council's tree expert, Matt O'Brien, said that even with a tree preservation order on it anyone could apply to have work done on the tree, such as pruning. What the order would do , he said would be to protect the amenity of the tree.
Councillors said they would bow to the expert advice of the arborologist but said that it was known that trees were vital to the environment.
