An educational centre, gym and soft play facility could spring up on an industrial estate in Telford, under new plans.

A vacant industrial unit on Tweedale Industrial Estate, Madeley, would be converted into the complex, which would also have a children's cafe, hairdresser's facility and be able to cater for parties and events.

The plans, which have been lodged with Telford & Wrekin Council, would create at least four jobs.

A report, submitted alongside the planning application, says the development would help to increase footfall to the industrial estate, which also has a martial arts centre sitting alongside other firms.

Under the plans, an imagination habitat and family zone would consist of a children's cafe, a soft play facility and a sensory room.

Moveable walls would also create areas such as workshops, consultation rooms and spaces for parties and events.

The report continues: "It is also our intention to use the space to be able to provide an educational centre, to teach children and adults alike things such as sustainability, environmental impact, making healthy life choices, keeping safe, basic life skills and creative/physical skills.

"There will be initially three full-time members of staff and one part-time member of staff. Plus potentially a hairdresser and personal trainer on site too.

"These figures will change depending on growth and business needs.

"If this application is successful, it will only serve to enhance the site, by means of increased footfall to the estate and thus providing the potential for new custom revenues to the businesses located on the estate.

"It will also improve the accessibility to health food and lifestyles for the employees of these businesses and surrounding area with the provision of healthy, hot and cold food available throughout the day."

The plans state that the educational centre would work closely with businesses and schools.

Classes would be run for children and adults of all ages and abilities on all aspects of health eating, from growing food to preparing meals.

A total of 15 car parking spaces would be available at the site.

Opening hours would vary from 7am to 11pm due to workshops and events taking place throughout the year.

The building was previously used as a furniture shop.

A decision on the proposals is expected to be made by Telford & Wrekin Council in the upcoming months.
