One lane of the A41 near Newport was blocked for several hours yesterday while police waited for the vehicles to be cleared.

Traffic came to a standstill as vehicles struggled to get past the large lorry still on the road.

Problems with the vehicle's air brakes meant they had to be fixed before it could be towed away. Workers were present until about 11.30am clearing the road.

Debris covered the path on the way to the nearby Bloomsbury Garage.

Daniel Butler of West Mercia Police said: "At approximately 9.10am West Mercia Police received a report of a collision near Bloomsbury, Shifnal.

"Police attended the scene of the incident and were actively directing traffic."

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while the incident was ongoing.
