One fire crew was called after the fire at the back of the Aston Taphouse on Wellington Road.
Smoke bellowed out onto the road while around six firefighters fought the flames which destroyed a fence.
Police were on hand to help direct traffic while firefighters used breathing masks and a hosereel jet to try and curb the flames.
The fire caused minor disruption as Wellington Road was reduced to a single carriageway, with tailbacks towards the nearby A518 roundabout.
The fire service were on the scene for several hours while they ensured the fire was completely out.
Nobody at the Aston was available to comment.
