Two fire crews were sent from Newport and Wellington to Broomfield Road to reports of a house fire.
When they arrived they found that a hoverboard had exploded while it was on charge in the kitchen.
Two people needed oxygen therapy upon their arrival.
The fire happened yesterday at about 9.15pm. The area was safe by 9.30pm.
Over the 18 months there have been hundreds of reports of hoverboard fires around the world, often linked to the cheaper lithium-ion batteries used in some boards. Defective chargers have also been blamed.
