Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters marathon race should be a scream
A couple from Shropshire are preparing to tackle the London Marathon – dressed as characters from Ghostbusters.
Holly Bishop, 24, and Freddy Holland, 26, former students from Harper Adams University near Newport, are putting their fitness to the test as part of a six-person Ghostbusters themed group to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
Holly has completed a number of events over the past few years including skydives and mud runs, in memory of her brother Guy, who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in 2013 and died aged 22.
The team, calling themselves the Ecto-6, is made up of people from all the over the UK, who have all been affected by cancer. The team met running the London Marathon in 2016.
Holly said: “The day Guy was diagnosed, members of the CLIC Sargent team were on the ward and offered Guy so much support which continued throughout his illness.
“CLIC Sargent provided Guy with financial support which enabled him to maintain his independence and allowed him to be able to do the things he wanted to do in the precious time he had left with us. This is something we are all so grateful for.
“I would do anything to bring Guy back and I miss him every day – I made a promise to thank Clic Sargent on behalf of Guy by raising as much money as I can for them which is what keeps me going at every event.”
This year’s London Marathon marks Holly’s 10th marathon for CLIC Sargent having raised over £37,000 for the cancer charity in her brother’s name.
Freddy said: “I’ve supported Holly with all of her fundraising over the last two years so when she and the team invited me to join the challenge I thought it would be a brilliant way to continue to support her and also pay her back for all the support she’s given me in getting me in to running. Most importantly though, is to help Holly with her fundraising, in memory of her brother Guy, for CLIC Sargent and all their amazing work.”
Laura Mayes, at CLIC Sargent, said: “When cancer strikes young lives we fight tirelessly to limit the damage it causes beyond their health by offering practical, emotional and financial support.”
