20-acre Shropshire field up in smoke after blaze
A fire tore through 20 acres of barley in a field in Shropshire last night , with fire engines summoned from four stations to get it under control.
The fire at Howle, between Hinstock and Newport, also involved 100 metres of trees, hedges and undergrowth.
It was reported to emergency services at about 5.25pm on Wednesday evening.
The fire service said that when crews arrived from Newport, Market Drayton, Hodnet and Bridgnorth, the farmer who owned the field had already made "good progress" fighting the fire using his farm machines.
The firefighters then set about tackling the blaze with hose reel jets and fire fogging lances.
It took almost two hours for the fire to be beaten back.
