First Newport's Got Talent coming this year – and it'll be hosted by an eight foot unicorn

The first ever Newport's Got Talent show will take place on March 16 at Hamilton Hall.

It will not be a competition, but a celebration of the range of talent on offer in the town.

It is being organised by Sparkle the Unicorn with all money raised going to help going to VICTA, a charity that supports children who are blind or partially sighted.

Sparkle, an anonymous teacher from the town, is also raising funds for VICTA by running the London Marathon in April.

She said: "I am very excited to be hosting the first ever Newport's Got Talent."

Councillor Peter Scott, mayor of Newport, said: "Happy to support this – it's going to be great."

The show will be open to any pupil at secondary schools in Newport, with auditions set to be held in the Hamilton Hall on February 8.

Performers from any background are welcome to audition, regardless of whether they are singers, dancers, magicians, gymnasts, comedians or anything else.

Tickets for the show will be available nearer the time and all the proceeds will go towards VICTA.

A group of Year 10 volunteers at Haberdashers’ Adams are also working hard to support Sparkle as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award.
