Road in Newport open ahead of schedule after burst water pipe fixed
A major road in Newport has reopened after repairs on a burst water pipe were finished ahead of schedule.
Part of Wellington Road, around the junction with Boughey Road, had to be closed after a water pipe that supplied the whole town burst.
Severn Trent Water engineers worked to fix it this week and have finished ahead of schedule, a spokeswoman said, so the road has reopened.
While the road was closed some disgruntled motorists had tried to get past the closure by mounting the pavement.
At one point the signs denoting the closure and directing traffic were moved around by pranksters, causing confusion to motorists trying to get around it.
The engineers were also harassed verbally, PC Lee Thomas said.
