Millie Rose Whitfield and her mother Mel, from Newport, have already raised more than £200 to be distributed between the Cottage Christian, Rylands, Rubens and Bank House care homes as well as Play-Days, the nursery which Millie is currently missing.

Mel said: "Millie has been taken out of nursery, I am working from home.

"I've been talking to her about it, trying to explain it."

She related it to her daughter by explaining that the lockdown would help keep "nannies and grandads" in Newport's care homes safer.

In response, Millie said she wanted to support the care homes and the two decided on a daily two-mile walk around the town.

"She has been working really hard to do her two miles and get the donations up," Mel said.

"I'm so proud of her because she very much had this idea of wanting to help the nans and grandads in their 'big houses'.

"She has been trying to make their lives a bit better."
