Earlier in the spring, Newport Town Council arranged a photo competition to encourage people to embrace the 'Choose Newport' campaign – promoting Newport as a destination for when the coronavirus restrictions ease up.

The winners will see their photos of Newport make up an official 2022 calendar.

Many of the entries focused on Newport's charming architecture

Dozens of entries were received from Newport residents, and the photos were assembled at The Hub in the town centre this week for a crack team of judges to decide on their favourites for each of the 12 months.

Among the judges were Jamie Ricketts, professional photographer for the Shropshire Star, and Councillor Peter Scott, as one of his last engagements as town mayor.

There were dozens of entries from townspeople

He said: "There were a lot of entries, I was really pleased to see so many. The standard was very good.

"They were difficult choices but I think the ones chosen will make an excellent calendar."

Winners are being notified by post, and a presentation is planned for the top three contributors.
