Fire crews from across the county rush to tackle barn fire near Newport

Fire crews spent several hours tackling an early morning fire involving over 100 tonnes of hay in a barn near Newport.

Firefighters rushed to a barn fire in Lilleshall at around 2.45am on Wednesday.

The incident on Abbey Road saw dozens of firefighters flood in from stations far and wide to help tackle the blaze, which involved 100 tons of hay.

10 fire appliances, including the incident command unit, the light pumping unit, the rescue tender and the water carrier were mobilised from seven fire stations across Shropshire.

Fire crews from Baschurch, Bridgnorth, Newport, Shrewsbury, Telford Central, Tweedale and Wellington worked for several hours to control the blaze.
