Work begins to fix dilapidated Newport hotel

Work to protect an iconic Grade II listed building in a Shropshire town is set to begin next week, a council has said.

The Royal Victoria hotel owned by businessman Roger Brock was granted planning permission for conversion into flats, whilst work initially began the site was mothballed in 2020, leaving the building exposed to the weather, without any protection.

Telford & Wrekin Council will now be taking over repairs.

The authority said the building and supporting structures on site have been left to deteriorate.
