Antenatal classes to launch at Telford theatre

Antenatal, baby massage and yoga classes will launch at a venue in Telford after winning planning approval.

The classes will be held in a suite at The Place, in Oakengates Theatre, after Telford & Wrekin Council granted permission under delegated powers.

The room is currently used as an office.

Janette Bowhay, who has been teaching antenatal classes elsewhere in Telford for two years, had applied for planning permission.

In her application to the council, she said: "As there are no antenatal classes provided by the NHS in Telford, my services are providing a need to help mums in the area.

"In addition, the baby classes help mums through peer to peer support and practical tips.

"They are proving popular due to their inclusive nature."

A report from Telford & Wrekin Council planning officer Matthew Thomas, who granted permission, said the site had ample parking and easy access to public transport.

He added: "The proposed use is likely to generate additional footfall into Oakengates and thereby contribute to the diversity, vitality and viability of the town centre."

Classes will run between 9am and 9pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 9am to 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
