Mental health charity No Panic to set up shop in Telford
A charity which helps people with anxiety and depression is moving to a new home and opening its first charity shop and information point.
No Panic is currently based in Madeley, Telford, and was set up in 1993.
It has gone from strength to strength and now has more than 1,000 members and 65 volunteers.
The charity will shortly be relocating to an old catalogue surplus shop in Oxford Street, Oakengates.
Michelle D’Ambrosio, office manager at the charity, said: “We are branching out.
“This will allow us to generate more income and expand our services.
“We’ll have the head office there, it will be our first charity shop and it will also be an information point.”
Donations
In order to raise further funds for the move, the charity has set up an online fundraising page and anyone who makes a donation will be entered into a prize draw.
There are more than 50 prizes, including sweets, gift sets and a printer. Winners will be announced in November. The charity offers mentoring and recovery groups, youth support services, helplines and online support. It helps people who suffer from panic attacks, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders and other related anxiety disorders, including those people who are trying to give up tranquillizers.
No Panic also provides support for the carers of people who suffer from anxiety disorders.
Severe anxiety and phobic disorders are a major and widespread problem.
Recent surveys indicate that they affect up to 18 per cent of the UK’s population. Ms D’Ambrosio said: “The charity fills a void.
“There’s a lot of people who come to us saying there are long waiting lists and they can’t afford private treatment. We are there to fill the gap. They can get the help when they need it.” People can donate online at justgiving.com/campaign/nopanic2018
The charity is also appealing for donations of items it can sell in its charity shop, and will also need shop volunteers.
