Alain Ettiern Simmonds, 48, had been living in a guest house in Shifnal at the time of his death in June.

An inquest into his death was held in Shrewsbury on Wednesday, where coroner John Ellery heard how Mr Simmonds had been homeless.

He had contacted Shropshire Council's housing team and they found him a place in the guest house.

Staff said that he arrived with just a few items.

The inquest heard he was an alcoholic, was pleasant and got on with others at the guest house.

On May 31, between 9pm and 10pm, the manager found Mr Simmonds slumped in High Street in Shifnal.

The manager helped him back to the guest house and to his room.

Later in the evening the manager went back to check on him, and found his key on the floor.

The manager placed the key in the room, and said that Mr Simmonds was lying on his back and snoring.

Enquiries were made with other guest days later, to see if they have seen Mr Simmonds.

The manager went to check on him on June 2 at around 2pm, and found him on the bed, with the key in the same place it had been left days before. He had turned blue and was cold to the touch.

West Mercia Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and after appeals they had not been able to find the next of kin.

Mr Ellery recorded a conclusion that the death was alcohol and drug related.
