Champ opens Shifnal boxing club
English super welterweight champion Adam Harper toasted aspiring boxers as he opened a new base for Shifnal’s Bright Star Boxing Academy.
The club, which has about 100 members, was previously based at the David Corfield Gymnasium in Cosford but has a new home at Old Smithfield in Aston Street
Club chairman Joe Lockley says about 60 guests attended the event on Saturday which featured members telling their own heartfelt stories of how the sport has changed their lives.
“We heard so many inspirational stories from people, who had never before spoken publicly about what boxing has done for them. Some have overcome emotional issues, including depression, anxiety, weight loss and even sexual abuse,” Mr Lockley said.
He adds that Adam Harper also gave a speech before cutting the ribbon.
