Police appeal for information on car after child knocked down and injured near primary school

A child was taken to hospital with 'potentially serious injuries' after being hit by a car this morning.

It happened on Park Lane in Shifnal, near to St Andrew's C of E Primary School, just before 8am.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service said one crew was sent to the scene and had treated the boy before taking him to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Park Lane in Brooklands, Shifnal at 7.53am.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews were informed that a pedestrian and a car had been involved in a collision.

"The pedestrian, a male child, was treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries and taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford for further treatment."

Police said they are also appealing for information in relation to the incident – but said no arrests had been made.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) for Shifnal and Albrighton, Sam Newbrook, urged any witnesses to get in touch.

He said: "We are appealing to the Shifnal community for information following an incident where a young child has been knocked down by a vehicle on Park Lane outside St Andrew's School.

"The incident happened between 7.40am and 8am on Thursday, May 2.

"The vehicle is described as a silver Peugeot SUV/MPV.

"Anyone with any information, dashcam or CCTV in regards to the incident is asked to contact us online, using the 'tell us about' section of the website westmercia.police.uk, quoting incident number 72 of 02052024.

"If you aren’t comfortable contacting us directly, you can pass on information anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website crimestoppers-uk.org."
