Former college students get back together
Former 1970s students from New College in Wellington travelled from far and wide for a reunion.
The event at the Red Lion pub in the town was attended by a number of people who were students at New College between 1975 and1977. Dave Poulter organised it initially for the students who began their A-level course in September 1975 and completed it in July 1977, but the net was widened a little to include several people from the year before and several from the year after.
One of those at the reunion, Rob Evans, said: "It was absolutely fantastic with a huge amount of reminiscing. We could still have been recalling memories now if the pub had been able to stay open.
"Three of us had a walk up The Wrekin in the afternoon for old times sake. It was wonderful to see the Halfway House open for business. We enjoyed a chat to the guy who is improving the premises and listening to his future plans. We attempted the Needle's Eye and took a look at The Raven's Bowl - again, reminiscing from the start of the walk to the end.
"A number of us completed the first year of our A-levels at Wellington Grammar School in 1974/1975 and the second year of our A-levels at New College - its first year - in 1975/1976.
"A number of us are still local but some of the lads had travelled a fair distance to be there - Derbyshire, Cornwall, London, East Sussex. It was also great to have some of the teachers present."
