New beer is toast of cinema campaign

A new beer is the toast of campaigners fighting to bring a cinema to a Shropshire town.

Wellington Orbit will be launched tomorrow by Rowton Brewery in support of the campaign to turn a former bank in the town into a cinema and community centre.

The launch will take place at The Pheasant pub in Market Street at 4pm.

The beer has been brewed to celebrate the success of the Wellington Orbit group – formerly the Clifton Project – in securing a lease on the former HSBC bank in Station Road.

And for every pint sold, the brewery will donate 5p to the group, which is turning the building into a picture house and community centre with a cafe and arts rooms.

The group was originally set up to save the former Clifton Cinema in the town. But it decided earlier this year to develop the HSBC building instead after failing to secure a lease on the Clifton.

Rowton, which is based at the Pheasant, is known for giving its beers names with an astronomical theme, including one dedicated to the Shropshire Star.

Orbit is described as a 3.9 per cent pale session ale. It is brewed using British Maris Otter malting barley for a biscuity malt profile, and uses Melon hops for a fruity flavour and floral nose
