Becci signs up for marathon to help others enjoy the great outdoors

Shropshire respiratory nurse, Becci Goodall knows just how important it is to get some physical exercise to help mental health.

Becci Goodall from Telford is taking part in the London Marathon raising money for "Climb Your Mountain" which is a is a charity dedicated to helping people to climb their own personal mountain..

She has ensured that she has found time in her busy life over the past 12 months, to get outside and either walk or run.

And now she has signed up to to this year's London Marathon to raise money for the charity, Climb your Mountain.

Becci, 27, from Wellington is a clinical nurse specialist and found herself at the heart of the Covid Pandemic. She works to help people stay out of hospital by helping them to manage their respiratory problems and being able to go for a run helped her cope emotionally with the crisis.

She herself had the virus last May.

"It completely knocked the wind out of my sails. It was a couple of months before I was able to do a run comfortably but it really motivated me to get my fitness back," she said.

"It was such a good feeling being able to run again."

Becci has been running for about 10 years and is a member of the Wrekin Road Runners.

"I have pledged to raise £1,300 and have raised £775 so far.

"I signed up for three events this year in aid of Climb your Mountain. I did the Telford T50 route with my mum, Sue, in January. We hiked it in the snow in January.

"If restrictions allow I am doing the Three Peaks in June and then the London Marathon in October."

She said supporting her with her training would be boyfriend, Gareth Harris.

"His is a pharmacist and so he knows how much Covid is affecting people in the community. It has been a manic year for both of us."

The couple are both avid park runners and enjoy volunteering at the Telford Park Run and encouraging others to get out and exercise.

"We know how important it has been for us and Climb your Mountain helps others."

Climb Your Mountain is a charity dedicated to helping people to climb their own personal mountain by providing opportunities both physically and educationally so they can overcome challenges they may face in life.

"The charity truly believes that outdoor activities, including walks and hikes can help improve people’s confidence and self-esteem as well as their health and well-being.
