During this week volunteers working with Community Empowerment in Action (CEIA) have been visiting families nominated to be supplied with hampers packed with goodies.

These will be delivered to around 125 families on the door step by the project based, in Vineyard Road, Wellington.

The gifts have been prepared with the help of funding from Staffordshire Community Foundation which also represents Shropshire projects and the National Emergency Trust(NET) which has been backing up groups supporting communities during the pandemic.

Project manager Nazmin Akhtar says the idea for gift hampers follows a similar activity which saw festive hampers successfully delivered to food parcels and education packs to 65 families in December.

"It has been quite difficult, but we're starting to look at ways to help the younger generation after initially focussing on the older people when the pandemic hit.

"Based on what we did over the festive break we've received requests through our Facebook page where residents have nominated other families to get assistance."

"Children have not had much to look forward to during these difficult times, therefore through this project we will be able to show our love, appreciation and commitment in providing services to children.

"This project will provide us with the opportunity to reach out to the most deprived and vulnerable children in our communities and provide them with a service that will lift their spirits and provide them with joy," she says.
