Man jailed over hockey stick attack ordered by Shrewsbury drug dealer who shouted 'I run this town'
A man was beaten with a hockey stick in Shrewsbury town centre in an enforcement attack ordered by a drug dealer who shouted "I run this town" at the victim.
The incident took place on the evening of September 18, 2021.
Appearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court Robert Green, 37, of Bayston Hill, admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm on the victim.
Green, who had been driving an unnamed drug dealer around, had fetched a hockey stick from his car to attack the man.
He was jailed for 29 months by Judge Anthony Lowe, who rejected a plea to suspend the sentence because of the impact it would have on Green's family, where he has a major responsibility as a carer.
Prosecutor Andrew Wilkins told the court how the incident had played out, with the victim, from Wellington in Telford, having been on a night out in Shrewsbury.
He was talking to a group of people sitting on the ground outside Lloyds Bank on Pride Hill when he was approached by Green and another man.
The man accompanying Green was said to be a dealer who believed the victim was trying to muscle in on his territory and sell drugs to those sitting outside the bank.
