Eugene Hart, aged 49 of Pennfields, known as 'Uggie' plucked up the courage to asked girlfriend Shinade Wilson, aged 19, also of Pennfields, to marry him on Friday afternoon.

Surrounded by crowds of shoppers, Eugene got on one knee after planning the proposal with burger van operator Ann.

When Shinade ordered a hot chocolate from Ann, instead she received what looked like an empty cup from Eugene.

But at the bottom of it was a engagement ring.

Shinade said: "I had no idea at all.

"To me it was just a normal day. We go to the van quite a lot and we know Ann so it was just a regular thing for me to do.

"When I ordered the hot chocolate, Eugene picked up the cup I didn't realise what he was doing until he got on one knee. When I looked at the bottom of the cup I couldn't believe it!"

Shinade said yes to Eugene and the moment was snapped by family and friends who all emerged after the proposal.

Eugene said: "I had been planning it all for about five weeks and asked Ann if she could put the ring in the cup when Shinade ordered a drink.

"I thought it was a pretty unusual way to pop the question, but I knew she'd say yes."

The pair have been dating for two years and are looking forward to their wedding.

Shinade said: "We've already picked our wedding colour - purple - so at least that's sorted for now. We haven't set a date yet, we're just going to enjoy being engaged."
