Wolves tea pot celebrating FA Cup win to be sold at auction
Wolves have always had a famous cup history, but this is something a little different.
A rare Wolves tea pot commemorating an FA Cup triumph will go under the hammer next week.
The piece features a stylised player in the old gold and black on the handle, the FA Cup trophy as a finial and a whistle on the spout.
It dates between 1930 to 1950 – coinciding with the club's 3-1 triumph over Leicester City in 1949.
Tea pots were regularly made to commemorate FA Cup winners in the first half of the 20th century.
The piece, celebrating one of the club's four cup wins, will be sold off at Cuttlestones' Wolverhampton saleroom on Friday as part of its Specialist Collectors' Sale.
It is estimated to fetch between £80 to £100.
Cuttlestones’ saleroom manager, Rosie Blackburn, said: "These were quite commonplace items in the ‘golden age’ of football, with FA cup winning teams regularly commemorated in this way.
"Now, however, they seem to be few and far between – especially in decent condition.
"This lot is likely to have broad appeal – not only to tea pot collectors but to those with an interest in football and sporting memorabilia as well, of course, as Wolves fans.
"We’re definitely keen to see what it achieves when it goes under the hammer.”
The piece, lot 188, will be sold at the Clarence Street auction house.
