Rail travellers face luggage restrictions on replacement buses
Rail users facing disrupted services over the bank holiday weekend have been warned that restrictions will be placed on luggage on replacement buses.
People will not be able to take dogs – unless they are guide dogs – bicycles, prams, or large items of luggage on buses which will be used to replace some services in the county over the weekend.
Network Rail says that planned 'improvement work' has led to the timetable changes for the May Day Bank Holiday, affecting some services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street, and Shrewsbury and Manchester Piccadilly.
On both Sunday, May 3, and Monday, May 4, there will be no trains between Shrewsbury and Birmingham with a rail replacement bus service running between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury in both directions.
On Sunday, May 3, trains that usually run between Shrewsbury and Manchester Piccadilly will also be diverted to run via Chester and Warrington Bank Quay.
The services will no longer call at Crewe, Wilmslow or Stockport and a rail replacement bus service will run between Shrewsbury and Crewe calling at all stations (Yorton, Wem. Prees, Whitchurch, Wrenbury and Crewe) - additional train services will then run to and from Chester and Crewe.
A spokesman for Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales said: "We apologise for any inconvenience the changes to services may cause customers."
Passengers potentially affected by the changes are asked to refer to www.journeycheck.com/arrivatrainswales and rail replacement bus timetable posters at stations.
Further service information is available from station staff, www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk, or National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950.
