Long diversions in place as Shropshire A-road to close for month of resurfacing works

Official diversions are more than 30-miles long

An A-road in north Shropshire is set to close for resurfacing next month.

Drivers using the A495 in Ellesmere are soon to face a month of disruption as the mereside road closes for resurfacing.

Resurfacing work is due to be carried out between Sparbridge Roundabout and Newton between Tuesday, June 2 and Friday, July 3.

Shropshire Council said the road will be closed on weekdays from 9.30am to 4pm, but closure points will be moved where possible as work progresses.

The council has confirmed there will be no on‑street parking during working hours and access will be maintained, when safe, for residents and businesses within the closure, as well as pedestrians, dismounted cyclists, equestrians and emergency services.

All other traffic will be directed along a signed diversions, a 31-mile diversion via Oswestry or a 41-mile diversion via Whitchurch.

But Shropshire Council is reminding drivers that they may be able to choose an alternative depending on their vehicle type.
