Capacity entry for Loton Park Hill Climb

Some of the top drivers and cars from across the UK will be competing at Loton Park, near Shrewsbury this weekend when the county's premier motorsport venue hosts rounds of the Midland Hill Climb Championship.

The closely fought championship attracts over 200 entrants and reigning champion, Mike Turpin will be competing in his all conquering Vauxhall VX220 in the over 2000cc modified Series Production cars class.Former British Champion and national number two Trevor Willis, of Worcester, has entered in his OMS 28, as has Halesowen driver Will Hall, currently seeded three, in his Force racing car.The highly competitive 1100cc racing car class has attracted 15 entrants, while the 2000cc racing car class has now been split into normally aspirated and forced induction engines, separating lightweight motorcycle-engined cars from classic hill climb machines like Pilbeam and Lola.Both days will see over 25 Lotus cars of all shapes and sizes taking part in the Paul Matty Sports Cars Lotus Championship, with practice runs in the mornings and timed competition runs in the afternoons.Another well-supported section is the Allswage Loton Park Championship for Hagley Car Club members, with over 25 drivers competing in three separate classes for drivers of different experience, featuring a wide range of cars from Renault Clio, Citroen Saxo, Mazda MX5, through to Porsche Boxsters, Subaru Imprezas and Mitsubishi Evos.Local drivers entered include Kelvin Lee of Bridgnorth in a Lotus Exige, Phil Newell of Telford in a Mazda, Becky Manton of Shifnal in an MG Midget, Richard Thorne of Ludlow in a Jamun, Neville Rollason of Craven Arms in an OMS, Ken Evans of Nesscliffe in a Caterham, Nick Tart of Bridgnorth in a March, Edwin Toms of Shrewsbury in Fiesta ST150 and Roger Moran of Orleton in a Caterham.The action starts at 9.15 each day with catering facilities and commentary, accompanied children under 16 are admitted free and further details can be found at www.hdlcc.com
