Modern and classics set for Loton Park
Classic Downton Minis and Austin 7s will join a wide variety of modern sports and racing cars when Loton Park Hill Climb stages two club meetings at its parkland location in Shropshire, this weekend. (Aug 29/30)
The two separate events will also host special classes for Westfield sports cars, which are manufactured in the West Midlands, together with competitors in the Bugatti Owners Club 'B' License Holders Championship.
Nearly twenty cars of all shapes and sizes are entered into each of the two production car classes, for under 2 litre and over 2 litre engines, where road legal cars are usually driven to the event, checked by scrutineers, have racing numbers attached and then compete against the clock - before hopefully being driven home again in one piece.
Local entrants in these classes include Paul Owen of Wem in a BMW, Dave Newell of Telford in a Mazda MX5, Sean Toms of Shrewsbury in a Porsche Boxster, Andrew Hollis of Craven Arms in a BMW 318, Mark Laws of Much Wenlock in a BMW Mini and Trevor Lacey of Shifnal in a Subaru Impreza.
The racing car classes sees entries from Jonathen Varley of Telford in a March, Andy Dunbar of Powys in a Force PT and Mark Dalton of Leominster in an OMS.
Loton Park is situated in the village of Alberbury, near Shrewsbury and the action starts at 9.15am each day with two practice runs for each driver during the morning followed by two timed competition runs in programme order, with full commentary, after lunch.
