Rolls-Royce celebrates UK music scene with series of bespoke cars
‘Inspired by British Music’ cars have been created in collaboration with some of Britain’s most famous rock and vocal artists and will raise money for their charities
Rolls-Royce is hoping for a smash hit with nine bespoke Wraiths celebrating the legacy of some of Britain’s most respected musicians.
Created in partnership with artists such as Roger Daltrey from rock band The Who and Sir Ray Davis of The Kinks, the ‘Inspired by British Music’ cars will all be hand-built, incorporating design touches unique to each artist that they commemorate.
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, chief executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said: “The enduring allure of Rolls-Royce has been encouraged over the years by some of the world’s most famous and important music icons. So many have turned to Rolls-Royce to celebrate their success with the ultimate display of originality and creativity.
“This collaboration – with some of Britain’s most celebrated musicians – promises to add to this legacy, creating truly unique collectors’ items which also support worthy charities.”
Rolls-Royce will donate a proportion of the value of each car to a charity selected by each artist.
The first two cars in the series, created with Roger Daltrey, are inspired directly by the star’s history. As such, the first vehicle receives The Who’s famous bullseye logo on the dashboard clock’s face, while copper door accents are engraved with lyrics from the band’s 1972 single ‘Join Together’ and ‘I Can See for Miles’, released in 1967.
Daltrey said: “It’s been immense fun working in collaboration with Rolls-Royce to create two cars which capture some of The Who’s iconography so beautifully.
“Both cars will raise vital funds and awareness for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and will be among the ultimate collectors’ pieces for any The Who aficionado.”
Forthcoming cars will include models created in partnership with Dame Shirley Bassey, Status Quo and Ronnie Wood.
