One-millionth Porsche 911 rolls off production line
Iconic sports car has been manufactured since 1963
Porsche has crossed a significant milestone after producing its one-millionth 911 sports car.
The two-door has been in production since 1963, and remains an integral part of Porsche’s vehicle line-up.
The one-millionth car in question is a Carrera S finished in ‘Irish Green’, fitted with a number of different features designed to hark back to the original 911. These include golf model badges, as well as a part-wooden steering wheel.
Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the supervisory board at Porsche AG, said: “Fifty-four years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father in a 911. The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then. That’s because the 911 has ensured that the core values of our brand are as visionary today as they were in the first Porsche 356/1 from 1948.”
The 911 has remained a successful car for the company, with 32,365 cars delivered in 2016. Their reliability has remained consistent throughout the years, and 70 per cent of all 911 vehicles are still on the road today.
While the one-millionth 911 is still being held by Porsche AG, it will soon conduct a world tour, embarking on road trips through the UK, USA and China, as well as completing a lap of the famous Nurburgring track in Germany.
