New SsangYong Rexton to cost from £27,500
The South Korean SUV will arrive in the UK this October
The new SsangYong Rexton will cost from £27,500 when it arrives in UK dealerships in October.
The South Korean manufacturer will offer the fourth-generation SUV in three different levels of specification, with EX forming the entry-level offering, ELX the mid-level and Ultimate as the top-of-the-line model.
EX and ELX variants feature seven-seats as standard, while Rextons in Ultimate specification are five-seaters.
Power comes from a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that develops 179bhp and 420Nm of torque, with either a six-speed manual of seven-speed automatic transmission.
The Rexton comes with selectable four-wheel drive, with power being delivered permanently to the rear wheels when the system is not engaged. The four-wheel-drive system can be operated electronically, with high-ratio and low-ratio options available at the press of a button.
As far as towing capacity is concerned, the new Rexton is rated to pull up to 3.5 tonnes.
Standard equipment is fairly generous, with entry-level EX models benefitting from 17-inch alloy wheels, a smart audio system with eight-inch screen, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control to name a few features. There’s also autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane departure warning.
Starting at £32,000, the Rexton ELX adds 18-inch alloys, dual-zone and rear air conditioning, satellite navigation with a 9.2-inch screen, Nappa leather upholstery, heated and powered front seats and a heated steering wheel among other features.
The £37,500 Rexton Ultimate is only available with a seven-speed automatic transmission and five seats, but gains features such as 20-inch alloys, LED foglights, interior mood lighting, quilted Nappa leather, 3D around-view monitoring cameras and an automatic electronic tailgate.
Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK said: “Following hard on the heels of Tivoli when SsangYong set new standards for value-priced compact SUVs, new Rexton is further evidence of the brand’s re-generation after Mahindra made significant investments in the company. It demonstrates the rapid progress being made as a specialist producer of 4x4s and SUVs.
“Rexton is the second addition to our all-new model line-up. SsangYong is committed to introducing a new car every year for the next three years, which includes a pick-up truck derived from Rexton early in 2018. The company is also focused on creating further growth by developing petrol powered, EV and other eco-friendly vehicles.
“For what is generally perceived as a value-brand, I think everyone will be astonished by the quality of this new car. It’s a huge advance, and we can’t wait to launch it.”
