Maserati revealed a refreshed version of its Ghibli saloon at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Italian manufacturer has given its top-selling model an exterior redesign with a sportier look “to reflect Maserati’s racing heritage”. Its aerodynamic efficiency is also seven per cent better as a result of the restyling.

There are two new trims for Ghibli – the luxury-orientated GranLusso and sportier GranSport – first introduced on the Quattroporte luxury saloon last year. They get adaptive full LED headlights, which is a first for the brand, as well as more performance from the Ferrari-built 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine.

The top-spec Ghibli S and S Q4 variants now make 424bhp and 580Nm of torque, up 20bhp and 30Nm from before. This makes each model about 0.1 seconds quicker in the 0-60mph sprint – the rear-wheel-drive S now takes 4.7 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive S Q4 manages 4.5.

Other improvements across the Ghibli range include advanced driver assistance aids, electric power steering and a new vehicle stability system.

Maserati revealed changes across its model range at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The upgraded technology on the Ghibli has also been added to the updated Quattroporte and Levante SUV.
