Porsche has been named and shamed as the most likely “prestige” car brand to be clamped in the UK as a result of not being taxed.

New data revealed by the DVLA shows 137 of the German manufacturer’s cars were caught in 2016.

Porsches were comfortably the most clamped vehicles compared with other “prestige” brands. Bentley followed in second with 12 and Daimler rounded out the top three with 11.

In total, more than 118,000 vehicles were clamped last year for not being road taxed — the two most common cars being the Vauxhall Astra and Ford Focus, with over 5,000 each.

Also clamped were 68 London Taxis, three Reliant Robins, two Gulf Stream motorhomes and even a tractor.

Bethany Beasley, national wheelclamping manager for the DVLA, said: “Our enforcement teams are out and about on the roads around the UK all year.

“The majority of drivers will never come into contact with our clamping teams, as more than 98 per cent of vehicles on the road are correctly taxed.

“However, those who risk using an untaxed vehicle on the road will have to manage the cost and inconvenience of their vehicle being clamped or impounded.

“It’s never been easier to tax a vehicle – it takes just a few minutes to do it online.”
