Dash cam footage reported near-triples in two years

New research reveals 285 per cent increase in dash cam footage used during claims processes since 2015

The amount of dash cam footage used in insurance claims has almost tripled in two years, research has revealed.

A report published by accident support specialists Accident Exchange has shown a 285 per cent increase in the use of dash cam footage in insurance claims processes between January 2015 and July 2017.

Dash cam footage makes claims easier and smoother, by providing clear images of incidents.

The figures are supported by a report in 2015 by camera manufacturer Nextbase, which revealed a 918 per cent rise in dash cam sales in a single year.

Dash cams have had a major impact on the motoring industry in recent years. Insurers have begun to offer reduced premiums for those with the technology fitted and some manufacturers even fit cameras as standard to vehicles — such as Citroen with its latest C3.

Scott Hamilton-Cooper, director of operations and sales at Accident Exchange, said: “For many, the post-accident experience is one of the most stressful elements of car ownership, and it benefits everyone – motorists, accident management firms and insurers – to make it simple, stress-free and to limit unnecessary claims disputes.

“The fact it brings even more transparency to the process is great for us and our customers.”
